Seems like a hasty trade in order to move salary. The guy has been as steady as they come on the 3rd pairing and showed he could hold his own in the top 4. JR definitely could have gotten more closer to the deadline |

A trade like this was most likely continuously on the table. Guessing another trade will be happening soon. |

Straight up, I think GMJR got a reasonable return in this instance. With Justin Schultz nearing a return, and with the emergence of Jusso Riikola, JO wasn't going to be seeing much ice time anyway. That being said, JO was one of the few guys on the Pens that provided toughness and the ability to drop the gloves when necessary. So that element and aspect of JO's game will be missed by the Pens, but I am quite sure GMJR isn't done wheeling and dealing yet. |

If it was Johnson going for a 4th it would be great. I thought JO would have been a great 3rd pair D for them... Pretty disappointing to only get a 4th. Likely a sign of something bigger coming. |

It's the same exact pick that the Penguins gave up to get him from Dallas back in 2017. They basically just did the exact same trade in reverse?!? |

Would have thought GMJR could have gotten a little better than a 4th but I think this is just a deal to clear some cap room for the trade deadline. |

I think a lot of Penguins fans on here are overrating JO a bit. He was a solid bottom pairing defenseman, but nothing that special and not a dude you really want playing any higher than the bottom pairing. His contract wasn't necessarily bad, but it was a solid chunk of change and you simply can't pay another bottom pairing dude any significant cap hit when we have Jack Johnson who is unmovable. We needed to trade either Oleksiak or Sheahan if we wanted to make another move before the deadline, and as far as future implications go, Oleksiak contract was definitely the right one to move. |

Agreed. I thought the same thing when these teams swapped him the first time, for the same return. |

Now that they have Oleksiak, Dallas will probably trade Roman Polak to the Leafs for his 3rd stint in Toronto. |

the 1st makes it interesting. 4 more years after this at 3.250 is gross. |
